How do we keep the scales from tipping? Can we keep the scales from tipping?
I find myself sitting at the kitchen table on the first Sunday of March 2018, a professional woman, who has raised three amazing children, one married and raising his own three boys, the second thriving and soaring at college in his Junior year and the third my beautiful daughter just starting out in college and finding herself. I sit here watching my husband out doing yard work starting to get things in order for the anticipated thaw and arrival of Spring, and having an hour to kill before meeting my daughter for our weekly skating session and dinner, thinking I really have this balancing act under control. I got up this morning had my quite time, read for an hour while having my coffee, headed to the gym for my workout and spa time, came home showered and waiting for the next scheduled activity. But am I really mastering the balancing act? Can I really master the balancing act? Can anyone?
I have gotten into a pretty good rhythm and routine in my life, and I have to say, it is a lot easier these days without small children under foot.(hangeth thou in there young moms!) However, there are days and events that happen and my worlds collide, then what? I do not think you ever get to the place where your worlds colliding stops happening and thus the scales tipping one direction or another, or shoot some days it's more like a tilt-a-whirl spinning your around one way and then another, up and down, and then back again.
So these are my thoughts and tips on the balancing act and navigating life trying to keep everything in balance.
- Understand that you can't keep everything in balance all the time.
- Know your priorities and what matters to "you" (This topic is a whole other blog)
- Resolve to go with the flow - sometimes you just have to enjoy the ride on the tilt-a-whirl.
- Have a routine, but set it in clay and not stone. "Be Flexible" She who is flexible will not get bent out of shape!
- Make time for yourself every day. You should feel guilty when you don't, not when you do.
- Keep climbing….because if you are coasting, you are going downhill.
I say this because today may seem serine and peaceful and completely in balance, and tomorrow may hold a decision about three events held at the same time, all great opportunities in different areas of your life, and throw you on that tilt-a-whirl. But if you put these six things above into practice, your choice will be much simpler, in fact there may not be a choice at all, the right event may just be obvious.
Don't sweat the small stuff ladies, and set yourself up for victory when the big ones come your way, and whatever you decide "OWN IT" and move on.
